I’m a writer and a teacher from Kailua, Hawaiʻi, where I still live with my wife and dogs. I currently write a regular column about Hawaiʻi for Honolulu Civil Beat, and for five years I wrote a weekly column about fighting for Sherdog. I also write book reviews, essays, and occasionally short fiction and poetry.
My work has been published in Bamboo Ridge, The Classical, Dwell Magazine, FLUX Hawaiʻi, Hana Hou! Magazine, Harvard Review Online, Ka Wai Ola and Vice Sports, among others. My writing has been recognized by Longreads, Best American Sports Writing, the Society of Professional Journalists and the Society for Features Journalism.
I have also lived in California, Canada and Korea.
